Crested Fireback

It’s a pretty amazing bird..strutting around the Orang Asli village at Taman Negara completely unfazed by all the captivated shutterbugs and birdwatchers around. Can’t quite capture its beauty in this attempt but drawing it brought back some good memories of THAT birdwatching trip that got me started on drawing way back in March 2015 ♡

The crested fireback (Lophura ignita) is found in lowland forests of the Thai-Malay Peninsula, Borneo and Sumatra.

Its diet consists mainly of plants, fruits and small animals. The female usually lays between four to eight creamy white eggs. Due to ongoing habitat loss and overhunting in some areas, the crested fireback is evaluated as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
