Ode to the Tapir

Farewell you odd-toed ungulate
Resplendent in all your monochrome wonder
Your home is dwindling, as is your fate
To fade into oblivion forever
While humanity thrives, you will retreat
Without so much as a sound
You’re not one to fight, so there’s only defeat
There’ll come a time you won’t be found
As quiet as you come, you will quietly go
The world may not miss this gentle oddity
But the forest will be emptier, as with our hearts
Who will miss you roaming wild and free
