elenaElena is a writer, editor and artist.

A former banker by profession, Elena has worked for Malaysia’s leading environmental organization, Malaysian Nature Society for almost 8 years, holding the position of the Managing Editor for the prestigious Malaysian Naturalist, a local nature magazine sold at major bookstores nationwide and the Editor At Large for the iconic Malayan Nature Journal, a highly regarded scientific journal established in 1940.

Prior to her role as the Managing Editor & Editor At Large, Elena was the society’s primary events organizer for all their signature events, including the renowned Raptor Watch event (instrumental in raising its profile to a national event status) for 7 years, Festival of Wings in Kuala Selangor for 7 years, International Hornbill Expedition in Royal Belum and the prestigious Asian Bird Fair held in Langkawi in 2014. Elena has also coordinated all media related events and has been a spokeswoman for the society.

Elena was the co-founder and Honorary Treasurer of the up and coming non-governmental organization, Ecotourism & Conservation Society, Malaysia (ECOMY), which was founded to help promote Malaysia’s natural heritage as a premier ecotourism and birdwatching destination. An avid bird artist, her art has also been displayed on T-shirts and other collaterals, sold at major bird fairs around the region. She currently runs the the “Birds of Malaysia In Art” facebook and website featuring her bird art.

Elena also writes regularly for the New Straits Times Malaysia.
